Ever wondered how “water load growth” compares to electricity load growth in Texas?
I’ve now done a first cut analysis using data from the Texas Water Development Board and ERCOT looking at this question across the ERCOT load zones. Perhaps someone else out there has done an assessment like this but have not seen one yet and think this one is probably first of its kind.
Bottom Line: Generally electricity load has grown much faster over the past 20 years but based on analysis of water use in the biggest Texas cities, the jury is still out on whether water will follow suit (Slide 16).
Texas must invest more in its water and power grids regardless but higher water use as our municipal engines continue growing would greatly amplify the challenge.
